Privacy Policy

The North American Taiwanese Bar Association (“NATBA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information in connection with natba.org (the “Site”) and the membership, event, donation, newsletter, and other services that link to this Policy.

1. Information we collect

We collect information in the following ways:

• Information you provide. This may include your name, email address, telephone number, mailing address, employer or organization, professional title, bar or law-school information, membership details, account information, event-registration information, communication preferences, and any other information you choose to submit.
• Memberships, donations, and transactions. When you pay membership dues, register for a paid event, make a donation, or complete another transaction, payment information is processed by a third-party payment provider. NATBA generally does not receive or store your complete payment-card number.
• Communications. We collect information when you contact us, subscribe to updates, respond to a survey, submit an application, or otherwise communicate with NATBA.
• Information collected automatically. When you use the Site, our hosting provider and other service providers may automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, access times, approximate location derived from your IP address, and similar server-log information.

2. How we use information

We may use information to:

• Administer memberships, accounts, dues, donations, programs, and event registrations;
• Provide information, services, and support that you request;
• Send organizational news, event announcements, membership communications, and other updates consistent with your preferences;
• Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site and our programs;
• Understand participation and engagement with NATBA;
• Detect and prevent fraud, misuse, security incidents, and other harmful activity;
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce applicable terms and policies; and
• Carry out other purposes disclosed when information is collected or with your consent.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

The Site and its service providers may use cookies and similar technologies to keep the Site functioning, remember preferences, maintain security, and understand how the Site is used. Some cookies are necessary for features such as account access, forms, or transaction processing. Analytics or similar nonessential technologies may also be used to measure Site performance and engagement.

You can control cookies through your browser settings and, when available, the Site’s cookie controls. Blocking certain cookies may affect how some features work. Where required by applicable law, we will request consent before using nonessential cookies.

4. How we disclose information

We may disclose information:

• To service providers. We use providers that support website hosting, membership administration, communications, event registration, payment processing, data storage, analytics, and other operational needs. They may access information only as needed to provide services to NATBA.
• At your direction or with your consent. For example, information may be shared when you ask us to connect you with another member or participate in a directory, program, or event that involves disclosure.
• For legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with law or legal process; protect the rights, safety, and property of NATBA, our members, or others; or investigate fraud, misuse, or security concerns.
• In connection with an organizational transition. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, reorganization, dissolution, or similar change involving NATBA, subject to applicable law.

NATBA does not sell or rent personal information.

5. Third-party services and links

Some membership, event, donation, payment, newsletter, or account features may be provided through third-party platforms. The Site may also link to websites and services that NATBA does not operate. Those third parties have their own privacy practices, and their policies govern information they collect directly from you. NATBA may receive information from these platforms when necessary to administer your membership, transaction, registration, or request.

6. Data retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide services, administer our organization, maintain appropriate business and financial records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and comply with legal obligations. Retention periods vary according to the type of information and the purpose for which it was collected.

7. Your choices and privacy rights

You may unsubscribe from promotional emails by using the unsubscribe link in the message. We may still send nonpromotional communications relating to your membership, transactions, event registrations, or other ongoing relationship with NATBA.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning your personal information, such as requesting access, correction, deletion, or a copy of certain information, or objecting to or restricting certain processing. To make a request, contact us using the information below. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and some requests may be subject to legal exceptions.

8. Information security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children’s privacy

The Site and NATBA’s services are intended for legal professionals, law students, and other adults and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

10. International visitors

NATBA operates in North America and uses service providers that may process information in the United States, Canada, or other countries. If you access the Site from another jurisdiction, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries whose data-protection laws differ from those where you live.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we do, we will post the revised Policy on this page and update the effective date above. Material changes may also be communicated through other appropriate means.
